You have a map that has a fractional scale of 1:250, meaning every one unit of map scale is equal to 250 of those units in real life. If you have a mountain ridge that is 50m long in real life.

a. How long would the map be in meter?

b. How long would it be on the map in cm?

    A. Since Map distance = Real distance / Scale factor

    Map distance = 50/250

    This gives 0.2m as the map distance

    B. Since the map distance is in metres, to convert to centimetres we multiply the value by 100.
