Theravada and Mahayana show that the beliefs of society regarding salvation are different where one emphasizes on hardship and the other puts emphasize on simply practicing faith.
Explanation:
Theravada Buddhism specifies for each of its followers the practices that one needs to follow based on who he or she is. The ways to follow Theravada is different for monks and nuns than that for lay people. These ways are strict and often turn into hardship. On the other hand, the Mahayana division of Buddhism preaches that to attain salvation, merely having faith and following the six virtues of Bodhisattva's is enough.
