Examples of diverging plate volcanoes are Krafla Volcano in the northern part of Iceland, a volcanic country that traverses the mid-Atlantic ridge and prone to a lot of volcanic activity, and Erta Ale and Oldoinyo Lengal in East Africa.

Divergent plate boundaries are formed when tectonic plates pull away from each other. When this happens, hot mantle rock rises where the plates are moving apart. Lava erupts through the long cracks in the ground or fissures resulting in volcano formation. The volcanoes are created due to rifting where faults along the surface continue to widen and spread out.
