The revolutionary concepts of perestroika and glasnost implemented during the 1980s contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union. This was after the revolutionary program of Gorbachev’s that swept communist governments throughout Eastern Europe from power and brought an end to the cold war 1945-1991, the largely political and economic rivalry between the Soviets and the United States and their respective allies that emerged following world war two.
