    Okay, so you take the length of your hypotenuse (17) and plug it into the pythagorean theorem as C. And then plug the given side (15) into A or B (doesn't matter which). So: a2 + 152 = 172 a2 + 225=289 Now isolate a^2 by subtracting 225 from both sides of the equation. a2 = 64 Find the square root of both sides to find the missing value. a = 8
