He was told there were some foreign explorers reached the gate of empire but these foreigners were small in number and therefore were not seen to be a threat. Atahualpa decided to invite the small band of Spanish adventurers led Pizarro, to his camp, since there were fewer than 200. Atahualpa and his unarmed escorts reached on a litter and the Spaniards attacked him and killed his escorts.
