about 175 million years ago
Explanation:
Pangea began to break apart about 200 million years ago, during the Early Jurassic Epoch. (201 million to 174 million years ago). the mechanism for the break up is now explained by the tectonic plates. We once believed in Wegeners concept of continental drift but hat concept is far outdated. The tectonics plates are on earths outer shell that consist of large rigid plates that move apart and together. They split when on oceanic ridges, come together at subduction zones and move past one another at fault lines.
Our sea floor pattern indicates that Pangea did not break apart all together all at once but that it split apart slowly and at different stages. It also proves how the continents joined together and broke away from each other multiple times through history before becoming what we know today.
