The reason that the daily maximum temperature is after the maximum solar heating is because the Sun has more energy when shining from the west. there is a thermal "lag" in the heating of the atmosphere. the atmosphere is "thinner" in the afternoon. There is no relationship between the maximum amount of sunshine and the time of maximum daily temperature.

    Explanation:

    Some bodies like our Earth has some late expression of the temperature, is not an immediate effect when it is heating. It will depend on the thickness, on the thermic diffusion and the frequency of the heat.

    An example of this thermal "lag" is the effect on summer time, with a soil that is still hot even at night, some hours after the sunset. But the time that takes the Earth to loose it it takes some time after the exposition.
