Who Archimedes is:
DescriptionArchimedes of Syracuse was a Greek mathematician, physicist, engineer, inventor, and astronomer. Although few details of his life are known, he is regarded as one of the leading scientists in classical antiquity.
Why he's important:
Archimedes is especially important for his discovery of the relation between the surface and volume of a sphere and its circumscribing cylinder.
