    Explanation:Since there was such a large amount of oil being produced, more people could easily find jobs.

    In 1883, counties began commissioning roads by increasing taxes. With the development of the automobile industry, better roads were needed. There were problems with old roads. The State Highway Department was created in 1917. There was gradual improvement and road construction began in the 1920's. By 1940, Texas would have approximately 21,000 miles of roads.
