It is estimated that only 6% of all meteorites that hit the Earth are iron type meteorites. However, nearly half of known meteorites are iron meteorites. What is the reason for this discrepancy?

    The most obvious reason for this discrepancy would be because the meteorites which are composed of different substances get probably destroyed once they reach the atmosphere and the ones that do land on Earth are predominately made out of iron as it is more stable.
