    During World War I, the government responded to anti-war sentiments (feelings) by passing the Espionage and Sedition Acts. These acts punished individuals who:

    a) spoke negatively about the government during a time of war.

    b) tried to interfere with the military draft.

    c) promoted the success of America's enemy's during this war.

    These acts severely limited American citizens first amendment rights of freedom of speech during World War I. This caused several legal conflicts between American citizens and the federal government.
