    The statement that best describes a key similarity between Kwame Nkrumah and Nelson Mandela is that both men were elected to executive office after being imprisoned for political crimes. Kwame Nkrumah was arrested after leading a disturbing 'positive action' campaign in Ghana against British rule in 1950 and on 12 February 1951 he was released to lead the Convention People's Party (CPP) that formed the first government after his party which had won the 1951 elections. While, On August 5, 1962, Nelson Mandela was arrested, an arrest that set in motion a chain of events making Nelson Mandela a household name all over the world. This eventually brought an end to the South African Apartheid rule, a political system used by the British. Finally, Nelson Mandela became the president of South Africa, and in 1993 he received the Nobel Peace Prize one of the highest honors that human beings bestow upon each other.
