    D. Railroads brought an increase in population, leading to controversies over land usage. Railroads became important to America with industrialization occurring in the East and resources located in the West. Railroads also brought more people to the West which again brought up problems of land ownership with Native American tribes. The fights on the Plains over land were violent and ended in the defeat of the last major tribes in the US.
