The Constitution convention took place from May 14 to September 17, 1787 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Its purpose was to decide the way america would be governed. At the 1787 convention the delegates devised plan to form a stronger federal government with three branches - Executive, Legislative and Judicial, with checks and balances so that no single branch could have more power than the others and if any one branch tried to act outside its limits then others could correct it.
