Articles of confederation comprised a series of set laws which gave undue and exceptional powers to the state and limited the power of the central Government. The weaknesses of it were that the states upheld the supreme power to impose taxes, raise a military army and execute laws. There was no apex court and function of judicial review. It also supported unicameral legislature.

It also delimited the powers of congress as it had the powers only to start a war operation and maintain trade relationships with other countries. This contraction of powers proved to be ineffective at times wherein central or union government seemed to be ineffective, hence prominent thinkers started to introspect on it.

After great and elaborate deliberations, a series of amendments were passed by the founding fathers and this paved way for a new outline of a legal document called the American Constitution.
