What does Evans mean by "old-stock Americans"?

Hiram Evans was a white supremacist member of the Ku Klux Klan. When he refrerred to "old-stock americans" he means "the not yet contaminated Anglo-Saxons". An important part of that role was protestantism, as Evans was very oppossed to Catholics.
