Religion is one component that exists within a larger culture. The term culture refers generally to a set of practices, beliefs and institutions that, collectively, describe a specific population. The components of culture are often passed down from generation to generation and can include not only religious practice, but also language, mythology, tradition, the arts and political institutions or practices. So, while religious practice may represent one aspect of a peoples culture, a larger assessment of the culture as a whole will include many other considerations. A definition of America's culture, for example, would require an analysis not only of the religions practiced in America, but also the music, television programs, movies, traditions, political beliefs, economic philosophy, law and languages propagated by the American people.
