Why were the Democrats so fond of the idea of Manifest Destiny as opposed to the

Republicans and Whigs?

The democrats supported it because they claimed that it was the US destiny to go from coast to coast and expand. The Whigs opposed it because they believed it would bring harm to the Natives, it would cause people to go to war with Mexico, and that the government was not yet strong enough to control such a large territory.
