NATO's activities now include crisis management and peacekeeping.
Explanation:
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is a Western defense alliance founded in Washington, D. C. April 4, 1949, from a number of Western countries that followed the experiences they had made during and after World War II, in order to ensure the peace and security of the member states. While fears of German revenge right after the war had played a certain role, these priorities quickly changed as the Cold War began, especially when the Korean War broke out, and fears of a Soviet take on the Western powers were central. West Germany was a member in 1955, among others, to secure NATO greater industrial weight in Europe. At the heart of the treaty is Article V, which states that an action on a NATO country is an act on the entire alliance.
With the end of Cold War, NATO ceased to be a military alliance ready to fight the Soviet Union and its Warsaw Pact allies to become a defensive alliance, with dissuasive objectives against non-member states. In addition, it began to engage as a peacekeeper in international conflicts and to carry out conflict resolution missions, such as those carried out in Yugoslavia in the 1990s.
