    According to the Changle Inscription, the purpose for The Seven Voyages ordered by emperor Yongle was to expand and control trading and commerce in the Indian Ocean. The military campaigns led by Timur had affected commerce by land, so maritime trading was an alluring alternative.

    These voyages carried gifts and presents to the future commercial partners to show them the virtue of the empire.
