Heterosexuality is still treated as the 'normal' and expected sexuality in the U. S. An example of this is the process of coming out. Anyone who is not straight still has to tell friends, family and other people in their lives that they are not straight. If heterosexuality wasn't treated as the default, then coming out would not be necessary.
