The Magyars are the Hungarians. They traveled around 8th century from the Ural mountains in Asia to Europe and settled in and around today's Hungary. Both the original and today's location of Hungary were to the west of what was seen as the main part of Europe: so I would choose this option (since I don't know whether you mean before or after the migraton).
