Spanish was brought to Mexico in the 16th century:
In 1519, Hẻnán Cortés' ships reached the Mexican coast at Yucatan. Mexico had been discovered by the Spanish just a year prior, and they were eager to settle it. Cortés was the one of Spanish conquistador, best remembered for conquering the Aztec empire in 1521 and claiming Mexico for Spain.

Mexico was a Spanish colony long before the pilgrims arrived to Massachusetts Bay. Mexico gained its independence on September 16 1810.
