Why might the punishments for the crimes be based on social class

    According to Hammurabi's Code, why might the punishments for the crimes be based on social class. If a wealthy person killed a slave they would just have to pay a fine, if a slave killed another slave the punishment was death. I believe we should all get the same punishments.
