Common law is important because it means than nobody, not even the President, is above the law. When the U. S. won the Revolutionary War, the Founding Fathers didn't want another tyrant to rule and not follow the laws.

The law is important because it serves as a norm of conduct for citizens and residents. It acts as a guideline for acceptable behavior, and ensures equality within communities and social groups by an outline for the consequences of law violations.
