What was the impact of the emancipation proclamation on the civil war?

During the time when the proclamation was made by President Lincoln through the issuing of an executive order, about ten states were still not in complains with the laws of the federal government as they were in the confederate states. The proclamation meant that there was slaves in those states had gained their freedom and were free to join the army if they want.
