The scientific method is a body of technique for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge. It is commonly based on empirical or measurable evidence subject to specific principles of reasoning. It has been used since the 17th century and consists of systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the formulation, testing and modification of hypotheses. The overall process involves making hypotheses or conjectures that would derive predictions from them. It is important they follow a logical sequence.
