    Eliminate. If it was a disaster it wouldn't be progression or secession. That leaves you with depression and recession and because you probably know the Great Depression, the only one left is A.

    2) C

    Same thing. A and D were definitely causes, that leaves you with B and C. Then you can take an educated guess form there.
