The editor of the Atlanta Constitution who contrived the term "New South" was Henry Grady. Grady was a noted White Supremacist and was completely against the prosperity of blacks. He tried to start a movement in the South to combat the loss of slaves. He believed that the South needed to abandon their old "farming" ways and try to become a proponent of industry instead.
