Going from the Mississippi River westwards towards the Pacific coast, first we will encounter relatively flat vast grassy plains, after that the terrain will start to lift up as we near the Rocky Mountains, once they are passed we go down to a plateau and up again in the Cascades, and once the Cascades are passed we go downwards to the Pacific coast.

The place for farming on the way will be the space between the Mississippi River and the Rocky Mountains, as this is a vast grassland on nice ellevation, with temperate climate and rich soil. The Rocky Mountains and the Cascades are not suitable for farming because of the step terrain and big alleviation and the soil is not suitable as well, the plateau in between them is desertous so it falls out of competition too, and the region near the Pacific coast is either very dry and lacks water for irrigation or it is very rainy and has surplus of water.
