Jackson was born into poverty on the South Carolina frontier. At age 13, Jackson joined militia to fight the British in the American Revolution. Moved to Tennessee to practice law. He earned enough to buy farm and slaves. Jackson defeated N. O. in the War of 1812 and became a war hero. Was nickname "Old Hickory". Ran for President and won most popular but majority. Did not become President. Jackson won election and became President.
