I'm not really sure how advertisements support an argument but I'd say advertisements support an arguments since when you argue there's two sides, the one you agree with and the one you appose too. This is the part advertisement come into, advertisements support an argument because well they change the other person's idea, thought process and such. A great example of advertisements supporting an argument might be campaigns.
