This Southeast Asian country was once a French colony, was split by war from 1954 to 1975, and currently exists as a unified, socialist state.

    The Southeast Asia country is Vietnam. The United States was fighting there but it was not considered a war. It was called the Vietnam Conflict. We call it the Vietnam War but in Vietnam they call it the American War.
