The economic, military and security motivations behind the building of the Panama Canal were several.

Mainly, the US wanted to build the Panama Canal to establish a quick passage to the Pacific from the Atlantic and vice versa to gain more money. By doing so, it would produce a big economic boost for the US as well as give a military and security advantage for the country, because it would allow much faster troop movements.

Therefore, building the Panama Canal would bring an economic boost to the country and it would provide military and security, making this Canal the safest Canal.
