Jimmy Carter’s administration stressed human rights and non-interventionism, so he refused to continue supporting the Somoza family when they were overthrown because they abused their position; enriched themselves at the expense of promoting social programs for all citizens, and in contrast to human right ideals, they used murder and torture to silence oppositions.
