What was the main reason for the decline of the Kingdom of Kush? Alexander the Great and his armies invaded and conquered the area. Widespread disease and diminishing trade led to its downfall. The Kingdom of Axum grew and dominated trade in the region. A drought along the Nile caused most of the population to leave.
