    1861-1863: South had advantages at the beginning as they had better war plans and generals. North was not well prepared and did not have good generals at first.

    1863-1865: North had more factories and better economy and it showed on the battlefields. They defeated the South at Gettysburg. Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address.

    1865: After Gettysburg and Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, the South recognized it was losing the war. It lost cities of Petersberg and Richmond and followed by more retreats. Lincoln was assassinated in 1865 but the South surrendered shortly after.
