    In the year 1962, the Supreme Court of the United States banned the state-sponsored prayer in the public schools of New York. The Supreme Court ruled in the Engel V. Vitale that it is unlawful that the public officers prepare an formal school prayer and promote its recitation in the schools. Engels V. Vitale was one of the milestone cases ruled by the Supreme Court of the United States. The Supreme Court held that the recitation of written prayers in public was unconstitutional as it infringes the Establishment Clause of Amendment First to the U. S. Constitution.
