George Washington was founding father who served as the first President of the United States From 1789 to 1797. He was commander in chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary war. At which time he led the colonial forces to the victory over the British and became a national hero?

    The battle of the Yorktown took place on October 19, 1781, and it proved to a vital event which was conclusive to the end of the Revolutionary War. While the Americans on the losing side, General Washington planned a surprise attack on the British forces under General Lord Charles Cornwallis, with the French allies. After the battle and the surrender of Cornwallis, one-third of the British forces laid their arms and the British Parliament passed a resolution in March 1782 calling for the government to end the war.
