Why didn't black Americans simply vote for more rights before the era of the Civil Rights Movement?

Anti-segregation candidates were prevented from running.

Jim Crow laws legally couldn't be repealed.

They didn't agree with the anti-segregation candidates' other policies.

They were tricked and intimidated into losing their voting rights.
