Why did fifteenth-century Europeans want to find a sea route to East Asia? Many Chinese peasants wanted to immigrate to Europe. The land route across Asia was long, difficult, and dangerous. There was a booming market for African slaves in Japan. Europeans wanted to study Asian cultures and religions.
