    Cleisthenes reformed the Athenian Democracy at 6th century BCE. His reforms aimed to increase the importance of ordinary citizens on everyday politics, do to so, with the reforms any male who registered at one of the 139 local units would be considered a citizen and could participate in the council.

    Cleisthenes also removed the total power of the aristocratic families by allowing male citizens to access institutions such as the assembly and present laws.
