In the US, this is most commonly Christian fundamentalism, wherein followers look to the Bible for advice and guidance. Rather than focusing on developments in theology over the past two thousand years, fundamentalists believe a strict reading of the Bible is necessary. Additionally, today that fundamentalism has merged with politics resulting in the constant attempt to develop a combination of church and state.
