How were the Black Codes related to the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment?

    Black Codes were created by primarily souther states to circumvent laws and amendments banning slavery. Their purpose was to effectively restrict African American's rights by compelling them to work for cheap labor as if they were still slaves.
