the southern senators rejected the act.

    Explanation:

The Kansas-Nebraska Act was a bill proposed by Stephen A. Douglas and enacted in 1854 that allowed settlers of a territory to decide if they wanted slavery to be allowed within their state.

Stephen A. Douglas introduced this bill to organize the territory of Nebraska in order to bring the area under civil control but the southern senators rejected. So Douglas proposed the creation o two territories in Kansas and Nebraska so as to get the support of the southern senators
