Among the similarities between indentured servants and slaves we have the motivation to get them in the first place, which was they being a source of cheap labor, they both were popular in the New World among European settlers and colonists who used them to develop their plantations, business and wealth; they both started in the Caribbean and then imported to America, they both were considered personal property and both could be traded and inherited; members of both groups obtained freedom from both The British and the American governments in the 1800s.
