    Archaic - The human figure

During the first, Archaic period, artists were mostly focused on human figures. Males - kouroi - were warriors, athletes, and gods, while females - korai - were priestesses, goddesses, and muses. Figures still looked stiff and all resembled one another, they didn't have the natural look or the movement, as the art was still in development in this earliest stage.

    Classical - The natural world

In the classical period, artists started to study the human body, search for the forms, aesthetics, and naturality in it. The figures are starting to appear more natural, flexible, or in the movement; they are much more life-like then during the early period.

    Hellenistic - Emotion

During the Hellenistic period, the idea of absolute perfection is left behind, and the true emotion of life is embraced in art. Artists were exploring secular aspects more as well as the reality of life and humanity. That is why more and more art has an emotional side - there are descriptions of tragedies, injuries, play, ugliness, and suffering, which is in great contrast to the pure perfection and youthfulness described in the classical period.
