Yes, I do think it's inevitable for the rivals to return to fighting after defeating their common enemy.

Explanation:

Rival countries have a lot of reasons for their rivalry which may include but not limited to their method of intervention in other countries' affairs, their foreign relation policies, their internal affairs policies, border and land dispute, economic and social ranking competition etc. In the face of a common enemy, rival nations may work together to defeat their common enemy in a self preservation method that benefits both countries but, this doesn't address the underlying cause (s) of their hostility and after they defeat their common enemy, some of this issues may again stir up their prior hostility and they go back to their old rivalry.
