Hoover responded to the Great Depression by creating a few public works projects in order to employ American citizens. One of the most famous public works projects was the Hoover Dam, which still exists today. Besides this, Hoover did not want to implement many government programs and refused to have the government get involved in the economy directly.

This is because Hoover was a strong believer in a laissez faire system. This system said that the economy works best when the government does not interfere with it. With this belief, Hoover believed that the Great Depression would be a temporary struggle for American citizens and that the economy would eventually fix itself. These ideas were not seen as popular by the American citizens and lead to him losing to eventual 4 time president Franklin D. Roosevelt.
